GO Material for Superior Electric Motors

SWD launches series production of AFM motor components using GO material developed in collaboration with thyssenkrupp.
The specially engineered material opens up new possibilities in the manufacturing of high-performance, compact e-motor components – particularly tailored to the requirements of axial flux technology.

For the future of lamination stacks, we consistently focus on innovation and continuous development – across the entire manufacturing chain: material, process, tooling, machinery, and data.

A major milestone is now within reach: For the first time worldwide, we are launching serial production of AFM single segments. These components are also being manufactured for the first time globally using GO material with backlack.

To enable this breakthrough, we have worked closely with thyssenkrupp over the past years to continuously refine the GO material. thyssenkrupp has significantly improved the production process to enhance the adhesion of the Fosterite layer and the backlack to the base material. The result is increased mechanical strength that sets new standards in GO material for electric motors.

At the same time, we have continuously optimized the backlack formulations through our proven BPS® process. Today, we achieve the ideal balance between processing time and component strength – not just at room temperature, but also at the high temperatures encountered in real-world motor operation.

Thanks to the intensive collaboration with thyssenkrupp, we can now move into industrialization safely and efficiently. Production is accompanied by regular sample measurements, which are digitally recorded and correlated with production data. This ensures not only complete traceability but also a valuable data foundation for future optimizations.

Another milestone: The new catalog featuring GO material for electric motors has just been released. We are especially proud that SWD AG – as a pioneer in lamination stacks and GO material – is prominently featured on the cover!
